
H.E. Ambassador Martin Brook
Born in Rome, Martin Brook graduated in Political Science from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
Following a competitive examination, he entered the diplomatic service. After initial assignments at the Directorate General for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Countries and at the Diplomatic Legal Affairs and Treaties Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in 2002 he was appointed Head of the Economic and Commercial Office at the Embassy in Manila, where he also dealt with consular affairs.
In 2006, he served at the Embassy in Athens as Coordinator of the Consular Chancellery, where he was responsible for regional issues relating to the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. He also worked on interreligious dialogue between Catholic and Orthodox communities.
In 2011, he returned to Rome, where he joined the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs, NATO Office, with a focus on international maritime security and security in the Mediterranean region. Within the framework of the United Nations Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS), based in New York, he secured for Italy the chairmanship of Working Group 5, dedicated to financial crimes linked to maritime piracy.
In 2013, he was appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Algiers, where he covered political and security dossiers of primary importance.
In 2017, he became Consul General in Rosario, the second consular district in Argentina by number of Italian nationals. Since 2022, he has served at the Directorate General for Europe and International Trade Policy, where he contributed to the establishment of the new Cross-Border Cooperation Unit with France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia, of which he became Deputy Head in 2024.
He is a member of several Intergovernmental Commissions (IGCs) for the development of infrastructure related to cross-border mobility, including the Turin–Lyon IGC and the Base Tunnel of the Brenner Base Tunnel, and he contributed to the establishment of the Franco-Italian Border Cooperation Committee within the framework of the Treaty of the Quirinal with France.
Since 2014, he has been a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
