Italy and Turkmenistan both hold a vast cultural and archaeological heritage, evidence of the past civilizations that have succeeded each other in their respective national territories.
Ten years after the opening of an Italian Embassy in Ashgabat, a process of mutual knowledge and dissemination of the most representative aspects of these heritages has been consolidated. The legal framework for this activity is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two competent Ministries in 2009, to be followed in the near future by a more articulated Agreement between the two States. Individual collaboration agreements have also been signed by Italian Universities with the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, specifically regarding the conduct of archaeological missions by our experts in this country. Based on these recently renewed agreements, two archaeological missions from the Center for Research and Excavations of Turin and the University of Bologna have resumed excavation and research activities at various Turkmen archaeological sites, while the Antiqua Agredo Center (Venice) has carried out such activities in the past.
Italian cultural events organized in Turkmenistan always achieve great public success, confirming the widespread interest in our culture and language.
