IMG-20260930-WA0005

As part of Italian Archaeology Day Abroad, the Embassy of Italy in Ashgabat organised a visit to the archaeological site of Parthian Nisa, attended by Turkmen institutions working in the field of cultural and archaeological heritage, as well as diplomatic missions and international organisations represented in Ashgabat.

The visit was led by a distinguished guide, Professor Carlo Lippolis, Director of CRAST, the Centre for Archaeological Research and Excavations in Turin, who has headed the archaeological mission at the site for over thirty years. Also present was another prominent figure in Italian archaeology in Turkmenistan, Professor Barbara Cerasetti, Project Leader of the excavation mission at Togolok. The attendance of Muhammed Mamedov, Director General of the Department for the Preservation, Study and Restoration of Historical Monuments of the Turkmen Ministry of Culture, together with Maya Saparova, a representative of the International Department, and the directors of the National Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan, constituted an important recognition of Italy’s outstanding expertise in archaeological research.

Italian Archaeology Day Abroad forms part of cultural cooperation, an essential component of bilateral relations. Through the involvement of public institutions, academia and local communities, the “Italian model” of archaeological research contributes to the development of intercultural dialogue.
