On September 13, 2024, the first edition of the Italian Sport Day in the World was held in Ashgabat. The event celebrated Italian sports and promoted the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. Among the participants were athletes, coaches, and officials from the Turkmen Olympic Committee, including the President of the Judo Federation, Welmyrat Gurbanmyradov, and the Secretaries General of the Boxing and Weightlifting Federations, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
The initiative established connections with Turkmen sports authorities to promote future collaborations. Additionally, the Embassy met with young Turkmen athletes who were preparing to participate in the 2024 WKF Cadet, Junior, and U21 Karate World Championships in Jesolo from October 8 to 13.
