On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, reaffirms Italy\u2019s and the Foreign Ministry\u2019s unwavering commitment to preventing and combating all forms of violence and discrimination against women, both in Italy and worldwide.<\/p>\n
\u201cViolence against women is an unacceptable violation of human rights and an obstacle to the development of our societies. Italy must continue to be at the forefront in promoting gender equality, women\u2019s empowerment, and the protection of the most vulnerable. We must build a future in which no woman fears for her freedom or her life. This is a responsibility that concerns institutions, civil society, and each one of us,\u201d stated the Minister.<\/p>\n
The elimination of gender-based violence remains a cornerstone of Italy\u2019s foreign policy and development cooperation, supporting international campaigns against harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and early and forced marriage, as well as contributing actively to the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Combating all forms of violence against women and girls is also one of Italy\u2019s priorities during its term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2026\u20132028.<\/p>\n
Again, this year, the Ministry and the foreign network are joining the global \u201cOrange the World\u201d campaign promoted by UN Women, lighting up the fa\u00e7ade of the Farnesina and participating in awareness-raising initiatives aimed at civil society and young people.<\/p>\n
The Foreign Ministry and the Italian diplomatic-consular network also renew their commitment to the \u201cred benches\u201d initiative, a universal symbol of the fight against femicide and a visible reminder of opposition to all forms of violence.<\/p>\n
Italy is also continuing to promote educational programmes that include training on preventing violence, as exemplified by the scholarship programme launched in memory of Giulia Cecchettin, \u201cInvest Your Talent in Italy.\u201d<\/p>\n
